The J-League end of season awards ceremony (2007 J-League Awards) was held at Yokohama Arena on the 17th of December. This season’s MVP went to Urawa Reds star mid-fielder Robson PONTE. He scored 7 goals in 33 matches and controlled the Urawa attack from mid-field. Unfortunatley he was unable to receive the award in person due to returning to Brazil to recover from an illness, but will also receive 2 million yen in prize money.
The Group Stage matches were decided for the 2008 Asian Champions League on the 17th of December.
On December 16th the FIFA Club World Cup 2007 final was played as well as the 3rd place play off with Asian representatives Urawa Reds playing Tunisia’s Etoile Sportive du Sahel.
On December 7th, CHUNNAM DRAGONS coach HUH Jung-Moo was appointed as the new Korea Rep national team head coach.
Following the sudden hospitalization of Japan national team coach. Ivica OSIM with brain complications, OKADA Takeshi was appointed the new head coach on the 7th of December.
On December 12th, the awards ceremony was held for the Samsung K-League, with league giants POHANG STEELERS’ mid-fielder TAVARES named MVP.
On December 2nd the second match was played in the 2007 Hana Bank Korea Rep FA Cup final, CHUNNAM DRAGONS versus POHANG STEELERS. CHUNNAM had won the first leg 3-2 and thanks to mid-fielder SONG Jeong-Hyun’s 2 goals in this leg they won 3-1 making them champions two years in a row.
Nine games were played on the last day of the season (Round 34), a day on which the Kashima Antlers managed to clinch the J-League title.
All matches of the 2008 AFC U-19 championship qualifiers which started on September 17th were completed on November 28th.
The Asian Football Federation (AFC)’s annual awards were held on the 28th in Sydney, Australia. Urawa Reds (Japan), winners of this year’s AFC Champions League, were awarded the prize of AFC Best Club Team.
