On the 31st the Japan national team played their final international friendly “Kirin Cup Football 2009” match versus Belgium and won comfortably 4-0 thanks in part to DF NAGATOMO Yuto who opened the scoring. It was Japan’s 2nd four goal win after they had beaten Chile in their first match and it meant that the won both their games to claim their 3rd consecutive Kirin Cup championship and their 10th ever.
Star player NAKAMURA Shunsuke lined up as left forward in a 4-2-1-3 formation and in the 21st minute MF NAKAMURA Kengo found NAGATOMO with a through ball and he shot to open the scoring. Then in the 23rd minute FW OKUBO Yoshito’s through ball was picked up by NAKAMURA Kengo in the box who turned and scored with his right foot.
Japan continued in the second half and in the 60th minute OKUBO crossed from the right which FW OKAZAKI Shinji met with a diving header to score his team’s 3rd goal. In the 77th minute NAGATOMO’s cross was met by FW YANO Kisho running on to it to make the score 4-0. This capped another comfortable win in which they kept a clean sheet. It bodes well for Japan’s June 6th FIFA World Cup Asian Final Round Qualifier versus Uzbekistan. At the post-match press conference head coach OKADA Takeshi encouraged his team saying “We scored some good goals by staying aggressive in the second half. And we didn't concede. However the results of these last two matches doesn't guarantee anything for the Uzbekistan match. We will meet tomorrow night to head to Uzbekistan. We want to come back with a win.”
