Korea DPR Keeps Up Attack, Finishes in Second Place

Though Korea DPR's only chance to win the title depended on the other teams' results, they believed in themselves and went out to capture as many goals as possible. From a right side corner kick in the 5th minute, Korea DPR's Jo Yun Mi attempts a volley shot. Thrusting mid-range shots were attempted by Ri Un Kyong in the 10th minute and by Ri Kum Suk in the 18th minute. After 20 minutes into the first half, China PR began to find opportunities from counter-attacking into Korea DPR's area, but Korea DPR regained control of the game. Korea DPR head coach Kim Kwang Min praised his team saying, "The players showed their strong desire to overcome the towering China PR."

In the 58th minute, a cross was delivered from the left side to Korea DPR's Jo Yun Mi, who leaped high to head the ball toward the goal. The Chinese goalkeeper made a fine save but the ball went loose, and again it was Jo Yun Mi, right-footing the loose ball into the goal. Korea DPR did not let up their aggressive attack, with replacement Ri Un Suk assaulting China PR's goal relentlessly. Korea DPR gains a free kick n the 60th minute, and Ho Su Hui attempts a direct shot but misses, then Ri tries to head the loose ball into the goal. In the 65th minute, Ri's mid-range shot was prevented by the goalkeeper's excellent save.

China PR kept Zhang Ouying in the front line and the remaining ten desperately defended Korea DPR's offensive rush. In the 70th minute China PR threw in Han Duan, who was a starting member in the first two matches, and in the 74th minute veteran Teng Wei, in an attempt to counter-attack and change their defensive game. In the final 10 minutes, both teams equally struck forward, but the match ended in a 1-0 victory for Korea DPR.

Runner-up Korea DPR's head coach Kim Kwang Min claimed, "We won the most important match of the competition, and it gave the younger players enormous confidence and a very valuable experience." China PR finished in fourth place, and head coach Pei Encal pledged, "We lost only by 1 goal, but the gap was wider than the actual goal difference. I hope to inspect the national league and scout promising players for our team."
