DPR Korea win comprehensively 4-0 over Korea Rep. to take 2nd place.

In a match between DPR Korea, with 1 draw and 1 loss, and Korea Rep. with 2 losses, it was DPR Korea who came out on top with 4 goals. In the second match, China PR lost to Japan meaning that DPR Korea ended as runners up.

DPR Korea’s KIM Yong Ae picked up a 5th minute through ball from SONG Jong Sun and slid a final ball into the box. In the 12th minute star striker RI Kum Suk struck a long range effort from the centre of the pitch.
On the other hand, Korea Rep who went through the 2005 tournament without conceding a goal in 3 matches, has let in 5 goals in their previous two games this time. GK KIM Jung Mi, DF KIM Yoo Mi have played well in defense so far but were overwhelmed in the first half of this game. DPR Korea passed the ball around well and energetic double volantes YOO Young Sil and CHO So Hyun supported the attackers giving them room to move up front.
It was this attacking momentum that lead to many chances being created by DPR Korea from the 20th minute onwards. In the 24th minute KIM Yong Ae dribbled in from the right side before unleashing a powerful shot from outside the area. In the 34th minute left SB OM Jong Ran passed to KIM Kyong Hwa who’s left footed shot hit the left upright. Then in the 43rd minute RI Un Suk’s right side cross to the far post found KIL Son Hui open. In first half extra time RI Kum Suk’s post up play lead to RI Un Suk having a right footed shot. Despite all of these chances the game was 0-0 at half time.

DPR Korea had 13 shots in the first half but still couldn’t score, but in the second half their attack exploded. Firstly in the 53rd minute left MF KIL Son Hui’s run led to a cross to RI Kum Suk at the far post, who found KIM Yong Ae right in front of goal. The GK saved once but the rebound was put in for a relieving first goal. In the 68th KIM Kyong Hwa’s cross was headed in by HONG Myong Gum to make it 2-0. Then in the 69th minute KIL Son Hui’s right side cross was headed in by RI Kum Suk for another. Then in the 78th minute RI Kum Suk combined with KIM Yong Ae for the 4th goal. DPR Korea’s neat passing completely broke down Rep Korea’s defenses.
Korea Rep. also had a chance. When it was 0-1 in the 66th minute CHA Yun Hee hit the cross bar from long distance. Immediately after that PARK Hee Young’s left footed shot came close but didn’t go in. DPR Korea finish second for the 2nd time in consecutive tournaments. Reigning champions Korea Rep. finish this tournament in 4th place.

DPR Korea’s Coach KIM Kwang Min said after her team’s easy win to clinch 2nd place in the tournament “Our luck was bad this time, we wanted to win both of our previous games (Japan, China PR) but were unable to. But there was a strong sense of this team’s potential in the future and we will aim to win our next matches”. The other coach, Korea Rep’s AN Ik Soo spoke hopefully about the future, saying of her team’s three losses “This team is still young so we made a lot of errors. The biggest asset of this tournament is for those young players to gain experience. I believe in 2-3 years we will be able to put China PR, Korea Rep, Japan and Australia in the same bracket.”
