Asian Champions Seek Trophy on Home Soil
Current Asian champions after winning the 2006 AFC Women’s Asia Cup. Hosted last year’s FIFA World Cup but disappointed the home fans by narrowly missing out at the semi-final stage. Keen to make up for it here under manager Elizabeth LOISEL, who was appointed last October. China PR have a number of worries, including the probable absence with a knee injury of forward MA Xiaoxu, the 2006 AFC Player of the Year, but with the high level of talent in the squad they have every chance of victory.

Reigning Champions Who Dominated Preliminaries
Reigning champions who cruised through the preliminaries with three straight victories. Despite trying out a number of new players, they showed their superiority, such as by peppering Hong Kong-China with 37 shots. There were also outstanding individual performances by midfielder KIM Joo-Hee, top scorer in the preliminaries, and defender KIM Yoo-Mi, selected as MVP.
