Port Moresby: Japan proved that their 1-0 defeat against Spain was a mere blip, as they turned on a perfect illustration of their trademark possession game win over Canada, in the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Papua New Guinea 2016.

The result, combined with Spain’s loss to Nigeria, lifts Japan to top spot in the group ahead of the Europeans, setting up a quarter-final against the second-placed team in Group A.

Canada set up with a lone striker seeking to soak up early Japan pressure. Despite their deep-lying formation, it was Canada who had the best early chance but Sarah Stratigakis was unable to get any real power on her header from in front.....
