Hong Kong and Laos locked horns in the opening fixture of the Jakarta Palembang 2018 Asian Games Men’s Football competition on Friday afternoon. Hong Kong put three goals past Laos and came out on top through a 3:1 victory, racking up three valuable points in the Group A encounter.

Laos generated an early threat three minutes into the game. Thankfully, Hong Kong goalkeeper Yuen Ho-chun proved equal to the task and defused the situation.

Hong Kong then went on to grab the lead on the 19th minute, as Tsui Wang-kit sent Tan Chun-lok through with a fine forward pass. The latter then knocked the ball towards the middle, causing the Laos goalkeeper to fumble the ball. Cheng Chin-lung pounced on the loose ball and sent it into the net, putting Hong Kong in front 1:0.

On the 37th minute, Laos came up with a decent chance to tie the game. Phoutthasay Khochalern tried to finish off a counter-attack by drilling the ball towards the Hong Kong net, only to be turned away by Hong Kong goalkeeper Yuen Ho-chun......
