Kuala Lumpur: Japan's Takumi Minamino scored the only goal of the game as Monaco kicked off their Ligue I campaign with a 1-0 win Saint Etienne.

Minamino's compatriot Kaoru Mitoma marked his return to club football after an extended injury layoff by scoring Brighton's opening goal in their English Premier League 3-0 win over Everton.

Islamic Republic of Iran international Mehdi Taremi, meanwhile, made his debut for Inter Milan - coming off the bench for their Serie A tie against Genoa while Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki played the full 90 minutes for Parma.
