Team Introduction
The head coach position for the National Team had been vacant for over 6 months, but at last, in February Humberto Coelho from Portugal came into the position.
Filling in after the former Coach Hiddink, there is much hope as well as pressure, yet, the new coach has lead his former team to the quarter finals during Euro 2000, and until last year, he served as the Head Coach of the Morocco National Team. Such achievements are not in any way inferior to those of the former coach. At his inauguration press conference, he stated proudly that "I highly value the achievements of the former coach, yet in the year and 6 month period that I will be enacting as coach, the Korean fans will experience a new enthusiasm."
The team under the direction of the new coach will play its first match on 29 Mar. against Columbia at home. Therefore, the team outline is not yet defined. However, Coach Coelho should not have any problems with the organization. Although the big name players who have served the National Team for a long time are no longer with the team, nevertheless, the transfer of National Team players to European teams post FIFA World Cup™ is remarkable, and these players are gaining invaluable experience.
It is of great interest to see the Coach Coelho match up his sophistication with the tough and strong Korean football. |

Message from Head Coach
It is a great privilege for us to participate in th first East Asian Football Championship final competition. I understand that the East Asian Football Championship has been launched with the aim of improving football standards and cooperation among East Asian countries. I sincerely hope that the first edition of this tournament will be staged successfully, paving the way for further development of football in our region.
Korea and Japan played remarkably well during the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan™ and China made their appearances in the final round for the first time. This clearly shows that the football in East Asia is making rapid progress. I have no doubt that countries in our region will continue to lead the growth of football in Asian in the future.
Last but not least, I hope that all the participating teams including Korea Rep.will play to the best of their ability as a welcome tribute to football fans in our region. |
