March 24 - At the Ansan Wa~ Stadium, coach Uli Stielike led the South Korea national team against Lebanon in match 7 of the second round of the 'KEB Hana Bank Russia World Cup AFC Qualifying'. Korea won the match 1-0. With this win, Korea stretches it's record in qualifying to seven matches where they won and did not concede a goal. This ties Korea's historic record of seven clean sheets in row, initially set back in 1978 and then again in 1989.
Furthermore, Korea also ties their historic record of clean sheets in all matches at eight in a row, going back to last August's 0-0 draw with North Korea at the East Asian Cup. The original record was set by coach Han Hongki's team in 1970.
Today, Korea started with a 4-1-4-1 formation. Hwang Uijo (Seongnam) was selected as the lone forward. The attacking midfielders were Koo Jacheol (Augsburg), Lee Jaesung (Jeonbuk), Lee Chungyong (Crystal Palace), and Ki Sungyueng (Swansea City). Han Kookyoung (Qatar SC) was the defensive midfielder. The four-man defensive line was Kim Jinsu (Hoffenheim), Kim Keehee (Shanghai Senhua), Kwak Taehwi (Al Hilal), and Jang Hyunsoo (Guangzhou R&F). Donning the goalkeeper gloves was Kim Jinhyeon (Cerezo Osaka).
From the start, Lebanon set out to attack. The reason being if they didn't win this match it would be very difficult for them to advance to the final round of qualifying. However, their attacking didn't work. Korea too, put a lot of pressure on Lebanon. Koo Jacheol showed deft touches and a lot of movement while Hwang Uijo was focused on causing problems for the opposing defenders.....
