U-20日本代表は5月23日(木)、FIFA U-20ワールドカップポーランド2019の初戦でU-20エクアドル代表と対戦しました。前半にビハインドを追う難しい展開となりましたが、68分に山田康太選手がゴールを奪い、試合は1-1で終了。初戦は引き分けに終わりました。
大会初戦の先発メンバーは、GK若原智哉選手、ディフェンスラインに菅原由勢選手、瀬古歩夢選手、小林友希選手、東俊希選手、中盤の底に齊藤未月選手、伊藤洋輝選手、右サイドに郷家友太選手、左に山田康太選手、2トップには斉藤光毅選手と田川亨介選手をピッチに送り込みました。
立ち上がりは拮抗した展開で試合が推移する中、日本は斉藤（光）選手のシュートがゴール目前でクリアされるなど惜しい場面を作りますが徐々にエクアドルに試合のペースを握られます。攻め立てるエクアドルの攻撃陣に対して果敢に守る日本でしたが先に試合を動かしたのはエクアドルでした。45分、右サイドからFKが入ると、若原選手がパンチングで弾き出そうとしたところ、不運にも目の前にいた田川選手に当たり、ボールはゴールへ。オウンゴールで先制点を献上してしまう苦しい展開を強いられてしまいます。.....
