Kuala Lumpur: Melbourne Victory posted a club record 12th game unbeaten by defeating Macarthur FC 4-1 on Friday to keep alive their chances of catching city rivals Melbourne City and Western United at the top of the A-League.

Muangthong United’s win over Bangkok United means a thrilling race for third place in Thailand looks set to go down to the wire, while Sabah denied Kedah the chance to go top in Malaysia and there was J.League Cup action in Japan.

Japan: Trio advance to J.League Cup playoffs

The J.League Cup took centre stage in Japan over the weekend with the 16 teams in action over the four groups as three sides booked their ticket to the playoffs following the penultimate group stage games.

Both Kashima Antlers and Cerezo Osaka progressed from Group A after the former beat Oita Trinita 3-0 and the latter played out a scoreless draw against city rivals Gamba Osaka. .....
