A record six nations will represent Asia at the 2023 edition and the hope is that some of the continent’s players will leave their mark on the tournament in the way that others – such as Japan’s Homare Sawa and China PR’S Sun Wen – have done before them.
As the big kick-off draws ever nearer, we’ve picked out six Asian stars who could inspire their national teams at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Yui Hasegawa – Japan

A silky midfielder with exceptional technical ability and an eye for a killer pass, Yui Hasegawa headlines a Japan side looking to improve on their 2019 showing. Four years ago, the then 22-year-old marked her debut World Cup with a lovely goal against the Netherlands in the last 16, only for the Nadeshiko to bow out following a late penalty. .....
