Korea Republic women’s U-20 national team defeated Germany in their final group match to secure passage to the round of 16 at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Park Soojeong scored the only goal of the game as Park Younjeong’s side edged Germany 1-0 in their third Group D game staged at Estadio Metropolitano de Techo in Bogota, Colombia on Saturday. The result put the Taegeuk Nangja through to the knockout phase for the first time in ten years, as they face either Brazil or Colombia on Thursday.

With the group stage concluded in Group A through D, Korea Republic have reached the knockout phase as one of the four third-placed teams with best results – with four points from three games – regardless of the remaining matches in Group E and F. Group D rivals Germany (six points, goal difference +4) and Nigeria (six points, goal difference +3) finished first and second respectively, whilst Venezuela were eliminated after finishing at the bottom of their group. .....
