Korea Republic men’s national team moved a step closer to reaching the finals of the FIFA World Cup, winning the two matches in October despite the absence of their key players Son Heungmin and Hwang Heechan.

Hong Myungbo’s charges edged Iraq 3-2 in their fourth Group B game in the Asian Qualifiers third round at Yongin Mireu Stadium on Tuesday. Oh Sehun’s 41st minute opener was cancelled out by Aymen Hussein five minutes into the second half, before Oh Hyeongyu and Lee Jaesung scored their second goals in as many games for the Taegeuk Warriors. Ibrahim Bayesh pulled one back for the visitors deep into added time.

Having claimed a 2-0 victory on the road against Jordan on Thursday, Korea Republic rounded off the October series with another win in the top-of-the-table clash against Iraq. .....
