The “Beijing Generation” gains force. Aiming for their first win in 2 competitions.
Knocked out of the second FIFA World Cup in a row since 2002, former national team FW GAO Hongbo took over as head coach in May 2009 with intentions of a fresh start. His first match was against giants Germany and he achieved a respectable draw. The new China team was established with their next match 1-0 victory over Iranon their way to a 2009 record of 12 matches with only 1 loss. MF Shao Jiayi who plays for German club Cottbus made a come back for the national team at the end of 2009 but it was the new young generation from Beijing (under 24) that really gained attention, players such as FW Gao Lin, FW Han Peng, DF Feng Xiaoting and MF Zhao Xuri as well as 21 year old MF Deng Zhuoxiang. China PR will be aiming for their first win in 2 competitions thanks to their new young component.

Semi-final Competition winners. Looking to be the “surprise” of the finals
At the East Asian Football Championships 2010 Semi-finals Competition held in August 2009 they drew 0-0 with 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers DPR Korea. They finished with a record of 2 wins, 1 draw and above their rivals on goal difference to qualify for the main tournament for the first time in three competitions. The semi-finals competition was, Kim Pan Gon,’s first formal challenge as head coach and he used many of the same players from regional powerhouse club, South China. It remains to be seen whether the semi-finals competition MVP, African born DF Gerard Ambassa Guy and golden boot of that same competition FW Chan Siu Ki, MF Li Haiqiang can “shake things up” like they did before. The team is certainly looking forward to the challenge, having won the East Asian Games tournament which they hosted in December 2009.

“Winless” in East Asia. Looking for first victory as hosts
The highest ranked EAFF team by FIFA at 43 (as of December 2009). Despite only losing one match since hosting the 2003 East Asian Football Championships 2003 (9 matches) they have never once won a championship. Under the guidance of head coach Okada Takeshi since December 2007, at the previous 2007 tournament they finished with an unbeaten 1 win, 2 draw record but were runners up to Korea Rep. on goal difference. This time they will field a largely domestic based squad but it will include stars such as 2009 Asian MVP MF Endo Yasuhito and IFFHS’ “2009 World Golden Boot” FW Okazaki Shinji. The team is building towards June’s FIFA World Cup and will be aiming for a first title on home soil.

Aiming for back to back titles and to be known as the “strongest in Asia”.
Champions of the East Asian Football Championships 2003 and the previous competition too. Winners aiming for consecutive championships. They broke through their tough FIFA World Cup South Africa Asian Final Round Qualifying group in top place finishing unbeaten over teams such as Iran and Saudi Arabia and between February 2008’s Turkmenistan match and November 2009’s Denmark match set an unbeaten international A class record of 26 matches. They lost to Serbia that month bringing an end to their unbeaten streak but bat fellow World Cup qualifiers Australia 3-1 at home to continue their unbeaten record within Asia since September 2007. Star of Jubilo Iwata (Japan) FW Lee Keun Ho, 2009 K-League MVP and golden boot FW Lee Dong Gook and team legend Lee Woon Jae will be the heart of a team that will continue to represent the “strength” of Korea Rep. at this tournament.
