Can they be called“Asian queens”again?
Seven time consecutive AFC Women’s Asian Cup, the China PR women’s team are known for a strength that was in a different class to the rest of Asia. However in recent years that status has been crumbling. Despite having players like FW Han Peng and mid-field pillar MF Bi Yan who play in the USA at the heart of the team, success at recent tournaments such as East Asian Women’s Football Championships 2008 and 2008 AFC Women’s Asian Cup and international competitions has escaped them. They lost to Japan 0-2 in the quarter finals of the Beijing Olympics on home soil. This tournament is not just about the cup but more importantly about regaining their title as “Asian Queens”.
