Korea National Football Team led by Ulrich Stielike had won the game against Syria 1-0 with Hong Jeongho's goal. It was the 7th match of the FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 Asian Qualifiers and the game was held at Seoul World Cup Stadium at 8 pm, March 28. Stielike's team was in danger as the team was defeated by China 0-1 in the 6th match held on March 23. However, there is a new hope for being qualified for the World Cup Finals with the victory gained in a game against Syria.

Coach Stielike used 4-1-4-1 formation against Syria. Hwang Heechan(FC Salzburg) was placed in the front line while Son Heungmin(Tottenham Hotspur), Koo Jacheol(FC Augsburg), Nam Taehee(Lekhwiya SC), Koh Myongjin(Al-Rayyan) have played in the second line. Captain Ki Sungyueng(Swansea City) was in charge of central area while back-four were composed by Kim Jinsu(Jeonbuk Hyundai), Jang Hyunsoo(Guangzhou R&F), Hong Jeongho(Jiangsu Suning) and Choi ChulSoon(Jeonbuk Hyundai).
