EAFF E-1 Football Championship 2019 Round 2 Guam – President’s Message

Hafa Adai Football Families of the East Asian Football Federation!

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to Guam for the second stage of the EAFF E-1 Football Championship 2019. Guam has been the host of Round 1 for four consecutive competitions since 2009 and we are delighted to finally bring Round 2 to this beautiful island.

The development of women’s football has been one of the prime interests in the world of football. Clearly, we are amongst the leaders in women’s football with our national teams proudly representing East Asia in international competitions. All member associations participating in the most recent 18th Asian Games 2018 advanced to the knock-out stage, with Japan, China PR and Korea Republic winning the gold, silver, and bronze medal. Our girls have also excelled in the youth tournaments with Japan being crowned as the champions of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

History has been written in EAFF competitions as well, with the Mongolian Women’s National Team advancing to Round 2 in their first ever appearance in the competition. They will join China PR, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong to compete for the prestigious finals to be held next year in Korea Republic. I wish all the best for the participating teams and hope all our fans in the western Pacific enjoy top quality women’s football.

Lastly, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the Guam Football Association for hosting the competition. They are one of the most experienced hosts of EAFF and we trust this competition will be another successful event held in the island. I also feel grateful for all the support from our Official Sponsors and Dentsu Inc.

Mong Gyu Chung
President, East Asian Football Federation
