Chonburi: China PR confirmed their place in the knockout stage of the 2017 AFC U-16 Women’s Championship, overpowering Thailand 6-1 to finish as Group A winners on Saturday.
On a night where Thai mistakes were emphatically punished by China PR’s slick forwards, the hosts were eliminated, after their opening-day win over Laos was followed by successive defeats.
Needing a win to advance to the semi-finals, Thailand boss Sarawut Suksawang made four changes to the side that lost to Korea Republic, while China PR’s line-up was unchanged from their 7-0 success against Laos.
From the opening whistle China PR put the hosts under pressure, earning a succession of corners, and it was from a set piece that the group leaders took the lead.....
