Chonburi: For the first time since 2011, Korea Republic will appear in the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship semi-finals, after they comfortably saw off already-eliminated Laos to claim a 7-0 victory on Saturday.
Hat-tricks by Cho Mi-jin and Ko Min-jung and a goal by Lee Su-in confirmed the result, which saw Hur Jung-jae’s side claim second place in Group A – behind China PR on goal difference.
The 2009 champions are now set for a semi-final showdown with either Japan or DPR Korea.
Needing only a draw to guarantee progression, Korea Republic made an ideal start and took just seven minutes to take the lead through Ko Min-jung.
Captain – and leading goal scorer in qualifying – Cho added the second at the half-hour mark, before Ko doubled her tally to make it 3-0 at half-time.....
