Team Introduction
DPR Korea DPR was unbeatable in the 2nd East Asian Football Championship 2005 Preliminary Competition, hosted by Chinese Taipei in March. Up against the host Chinese Taipei as well as second-time participant Hong Kong, DPR Korea won all four matches, gaining 31 points and no goals against. Kim Jun (MVP), Kim Kwang Hyok (Top Scorer), and Jang Sok Chol (Best Defender) played exceptionally well.
DPR Korea recently played on even terms against such Asian leaders as Japan, Iran, and Bahrain in the final round of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ Asian qualifiers and proved to be a real threat. Reflecting on the two match-ups against DPR Korea, Japan's head coach Zico claimed, "They possess both speed and power, and we could not rest easy at all." Also extraordinary are DPR Korea's abundant energy, teamwork, and never-give-up spirit. Lee Hanjae, who plays in Japan for Sanfrecce Hiroshima, says with confidence: "We are strong."
Their U-17 team has qualified for the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Championship to be held this September in Peru. It will be interesting to see how many of the young and up-coming players will be called to the national team for the EAFC and will emerge as new heroes. |
