Team Introduction
The promotion of women's football in Korea Rep. was seriously taken on only since the 1991 Asian Women's Championship, so they may be considered an emerging force. In fact, there was a period when they struggled for a victory, but that is now history.
Taking full advantage of the development exercise of the men's team that advanced to the semifinals in the 2002 FIFA World Cup™, the women's team worked on their characteristic speed and physical strength to develop a team that is a threat to the rest of the world today. Their performance in the 2003 Asian Women's Championship indicates how far they have come. They beat Japan 1-0 in the 3rd/4th place match and qualified for the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup™. Though they yielded to the world's top-class teams Brazil, France and Norway in the finals, they managed to score a goal against Norway.
Reinforcing the members who have experience on the world stage are fresh youth players who are high school or university students. This team surpasses the 2003 team in overall ability and skill. Determined to fulfill the expectations of the home crowd, Korea Rep. will challenge the top Asian teams-China PR, DPR Korea and Japan-for the honor of being crowned the first East Asian women's football champion. |
