Rising Star 179cm Park Eun Sun's Contribution Helps Korea Rep. Gain Opening Match Victory

Korea Rep. took control from the outset, building up solidly from the final line and carefully formulating their game. Last year's Asian champion China PR, on the other hand, seemed slow, and as head coach Pei Encai explained, "The pre-tournament training was especially rigorous and the players were not fully recuperated."

In the 31st minute, China PR's Zhang Ouying raced up the right side and sent a cross to the center. Korea Rep. failed to clear the ball, which was picked up and delivered into an open goal by Ji Ting, but the shot went too far to the left.

After a clutch comes a chance. In the 42nd minute, China PR's Li Jie fouls Jung Jung Suk in the penalty area and Korea Rep. gains a penalty kick. Han Jin Sook took the kick and calmly placed it into the right-hand corner of the goal.

Korea Rep. sent 179cm Park Eun Sun on to the pitch in the 42nd minute, and Park demonstrated her abilities to the fullest in the second half. In the 58th and 62nd minutes, Park Eun Sun sprinted forward to catch a through pass and almost succeeded in netting the ball. In the 65th minute, In the 65th minute, Hong Kyung Suk took a free kick close to the center line, sending it to Park Eun Sun who delivered a loop shot. The Chinese GK rushed forward, clashed with the ball, and Park quickly kicked the loose ball with her heel to score the second goal for Korea Rep.

China PR's desperate offensive efforts proved futile in front of Korea Rep.'s experienced libero, Yoo Young Sil, and the impregnable defense. Korea Rep. defended their two-goal lead and captured their first win against China PR in 15 years.

Korea Rep.'s head coach An Jong Goan attributed his team's victory to the success of his players replacement: "Since Park Eun Sun had a lower-back injury and wasn't in top condition, I played her almost half way into the game. This decision really paid off." China PR's head coach Pei Encai reflected, "The result clearly reflects the way the teams played. Korea Rep. was better than us both technically and mentally."
