Korea DPR's head coach Kim Kwang Min claimed that "Our players' condition is being affected by the heat," and indeed the vigor and stamina they demonstrated in the first match against Japan were nowhere to be seen. Opposing Korea Rep. was still in top form with the usual superb pass work and grabbed hold of the game. In the 11th minute, Jung Jung Suk went up against a Korea DPR defender and broke through to the right, sending a cross that was just off. Half way into the first half, Korea DPR began to regain their strength, finding more opportunities into the Korea Rep. area. Ho Sun Hui (23 min.) and Pak Kyong Sun (24 min.) threatened the Korea Rep. goal in succession with penetrating shots. In the 38th minute, Korea Rep. brought on their ace, Park Eun Sun, who stands at 179cm and is not only completely dominating in the air but also can also set up chances for the team with skillful footwork. In the 59th minute, Park Eun Sun effortlessly dodges a defender in the left side of the penalty area, delivering an accurate cross to Han Song I, who aimed a volley-shot at the goal.
Korea DPR had possession of the ball but could do nothing against Korea Rep.'s iron defense, and their defensive efforts were often at risk as they had difficulty stopping the highly skillful Park Eun Jung from creating chances and delivering shots. The silence was finally broken in the 77th minute-Korea Rep.'s striker Park Eun Jung received a short corner pass and sent a piercing left-foot shot into the upper right goal net. Korea Rep. defended their 1-goal lead to claim their second straight victory, again owing to the contribution of a replacement player as was the case in their opening match against China PR.
Korea Rep. head coach An Jong Gwan proudly claimed, "We were able to win this difficult match because the players are mentally strong. I am very lucky to coach this team."
